Changing Seasons

Sauerkraut Here!

I’ve purposely avoided posting for a few days because I’m not sure I’m ready to share my news…

After applying for 135 jobs I have been offered a position as a receptionist… In Utah… Making $12 an hour. Sigh.

I wish I could say that I’m excited, but I’m not. What’s my problem?

1) It’s in Utah
2) I’m homeless
3) The pay

Actually, it’s just the pay. Let’s be honest, if I were offered a position that paid decent, I wouldn’t give a rats ass about being homeless in Utah. In fact, I’d be excited. I’m guess I’m just wondering how I’m supposed to survive on $12 an hour? Do I classify as low income? Can I apply for housing and food stamps?

I suppose I’ll give you a brief run down of my recent events…

My buddy Sheek Geek informed me that his company was looking for a receptionist and I decided to apply although neither of us knew what the position would pay. Lucky for me I was already in Salt Lake when they called me in for an interview. At the end of the interview I was told they would be making a decision rather quickly and I should have word by Monday.

On Monday I received a voice mail (I purposely didn’t answer the call) from the sales coordinator requesting an interview over the phone. Basically he held this position at one time and he wanted to get a feel for my abilities. I gave him a call on my way to lunch with a former co-worker and at the end of the conversation he requested a list of references. When I got back to Mr. Coconuts house, I emailed a copy… To the wrong email address.

I re sent him a copy of my references and on my last day in Salt Lake I was asked to come back in for a second interview. During the second interview I was offered the position. Now I have a letter of intent in my inbox and a start date of Wednesday, October 13th.

Everyone knows I got the job and that I’m moving back, except Mr. Coconut. I decided not to tell him until it really happens, because there is a chance I might back out. In fact, I haven’t told the fabric store or the swimming pool either.

So, a little bit about the job… I will (may) work for a small company that develops computer software and applications for various companies. The employees are a group of diverse, open-minded geeks and it’s a full-time, Monday thru Friday (clock in and clock out) position with full benefits (effective immediately). Also, I’m eligible for a pay raise in 90 days, fingers crossed. The dress code is very casual, there’s free food in the fridge and it’s dog friendly. Oh! And I already have a friend there. Honestly, if I were being paid more, I’d stay forever.

Anyways, tomorrow I’m headed to Las Vegas, Nevada for my cousins wedding. In other words, there are some awesome stories ahead.

That is all.

  1. Oh my god! Why didn't I return your phone call! Argh. I want to hear more about this. And you might qualify for food stamps, I don't know. I'm a little jealous of you and I Heart to Fart living in the same city.
